Malaria

1. a) Brief overview of the Program Division

Malaria is caused by the Plasmodium parasite and transmitted through the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. The country has achieved a reduction of 78.13% in malaria morbidity and 81.25% in malaria mortality between 2015 and 2024. As per World Malaria Report (WMR) 2024, the country is no longer a High Burden to High Impact (HBHI) country, as it is moving towards malaria elimination. Implementation of Integrated Health Management Platform (IHIP) for real time monitoring of cases & death across the country with on boarding of all 36 States/UTs, out of which 26 States/UTs are reporting paperless through portal. Strategies for Malaria elimination as per NSP 2023-27 Transforming malaria surveillance as a core intervention for malaria elimination Ensuring universal access to diagnosis and treatment by enhancing & optimizing case management – “testing, treating and tracking” Ensuring universal access to malaria prevention by enhancing and optimizing vector control Accelerating efforts towards elimination and attainment of malaria free status Promoting research and innovation for accelerating elimination and prevention of re-establishment of transmission

b) Brief overview of the GC7 grant component in the Program Division:

GFATM Intensified Malaria Elimination Project-3 (IMEP-3) implemented in 159 districts in 12 project states i.e. 7 NE states, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh for LLIN only and Maharashtra for NGO-SR only. Goal: Augmenting the effort of Malaria elimination in the project states & districts by 2027, and providing an enabling environment to prevent re-establishment of malaria (aligned with National Strategic Plan 2023-27
